Kevin Mitchell retires
Kevin Mitchell has withdrawn from his European title bout and announced he is retiring from boxing with immediate effect.

The 31-year-old compiled a record of 39-4-KO29 and won the British and Commonwealth titles as a super-featherweight in 2008.

Mitchell told Sky Sports News HQ: "I've had a good think about it over the last week and I'm happily retired now. I was in the gym on Friday and I wasn't myself. I wasn't enjoying my bag work or my gym work.

I would imagine that this is after medical advise. He is starting to sound like he is in a bad way.

Came within 6 minutes of finally getting a world strap last summer. Just could not hold out and took a horrid beating in that 11th for it

Hope he sorts himself out outside the ring

Re: Kevin Mitchell retires
Really nice guy as well, it's a shame how he has had personal issues in the last 5-6 years that have taken there toll. I attended a charity event he was at a couple of years ago where he did an exhibition with a guy who was terminally ill, it was one of the blokes dying wishes to go 3 rounds with a pro. He was an absolute gentleman. Zammo from Grange Hill fought Georgie Smith same night. Only exhibition fights obviously.

Which he quite apparently doesn't. But it's easy to take bullshit swipes on the Internet.

Vexed - Sorry pal, but you simply can't be saying that sort of shit. That's the problem with WHO people think they can just say what they like.

That is incriminating and should be deleted. Mitchell is a West Ham so it's ot within the realms that he or a mate of his will see that post.

HairyHammer 8:44 Thu Feb 11
Re: Kevin Mitchell retires
West ham's celebrity fans get destroyed on here all the time which I personally find pathetic so a boxer getting it a bit does not surprise me.

Anyway I am sure Kevin will survive without boxing as many humans do, hope he finds what he is searching for which may simply be a working brain and happiness.
